How do I clean and maintain my blinds?

Keeping your blinds looking their best doesn’t have to be difficult. With a few simple habits, you can extend their life and keep them spotless year-round. Here’s how to care for your blinds based on their type:

Venetian (Wood or Faux Wood) Blinds

  1. Regular Dusting: Use a microfiber cloth or duster weekly. Tilt the slats in one direction, dust, then reverse and repeat. Alternatively use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to lightly remove dust.
  2. Deep Cleaning (Faux Wood only): Wipe slats with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not soak wooden blinds, as moisture can cause warping.

Fabric or Roller Blinds

  1. Vacuum Lightly: Use an upholstery attachment to remove dust and dirt.
  2. Spot Treatment (certain fabrics only): Address stains with warm water and a gentle cleaner. Dab carefully – avoid rubbing – to preserve the fabric.
  3. Washing: Check the care label. If safe, remove and hand wash or machine wash on a delicate cycle.

Vertical Blinds

  1. Top-to-Bottom Dusting: Gently wipe down slats or panels to remove build-up.
  2. Vane Washing: Fabric vanes may be unclipped and laundered if permitted by the care instructions.

Maintenance Tips

  1. Regularly inspect the cords, chains, and mechanisms; use silicone spray to keep everything running smoothly.
  2. Keep blinds raised or tilted on windy days to protect slats from damage.
  3. Consider cordless designs for added safety in homes with children or pets.

With a bit of regular care, your blinds will remain as functional and stylish as the day you bought them. Need help choosing low-maintenance options? Our team is happy to guide you.
